Douglas Borough Council is urging keen gardeners across the Borough to enter this year’s Douglas in Bloom competition. Open to all Douglas ratepayers the contest is divided into 11 categories:
? Hotels and guest houses without gardens;
? Hotels and guest houses with gardens;
? Private houses with gardens;
? Business premises;
? Pub/restaurant/cafe;
? Public/community garden;
? Best residential area;
? Best Douglas Borough Council property (house or apartment);
? Conservation, wildlife and biodiversity;
? Secret garden (gardening ‘gems’ out of public view);
? Allotment (owned and operated by Douglas Borough Council).
Regeneration and community advisory committee lead member Councillor Stephen Pitts said: ‘Douglas in Bloom offers gardeners, whether they’re tending a window box or a patio, an allotment or business premises, the opportunity to be recognised for their horticultural efforts. The competition has not only uncovered some outstanding talent over the years but also complements the town centre regeneration scheme’s aims to create a greener, more attractive Douglas.’
Douglas in Bloom application forms are available online at douglas.gov.im, from the Town Hall and the Henry Bloom Noble Library or by contacting the Council’s parks section on 696330. Closing date for entries Monday June 10th.
