Wet ‘n’ Wild 2013

by isleofman.com 15th May 2013
Twelve teams took part in this year’s event, held in Ramsey swimming pool on Saturday 11th May. Split into two age groups, school years 4, 6 and 6 in the junior section and years 7 and older in the seniors, the teams of five took part in 11 fun and wacky and races.

The hugely popular event is organised by the Department of Education and Children’s Youth Service and is open to any youth groups from across the Island.

Ken Callister, head of the service, said: ‘Young people tell us that they want to have fun and this event is exactly that. It is a competition, which encourages lots of cheering and shouting, but the races don't always favour the strongest swimmers, it’s wet and its definitely wild.’

The lead changed hands several time during the evening, with the eventual winners in the senior group the Isle of Man Branch of the Pony Club, with Laxey and Lonan Seniors in second place and Castletown in third place.  In the junior section, the TT Swimmers from Michael were in first place, Blue Dolphins from Ramsey in second and Laxey and Lonan Juniors third.

The Youth Service, on behalf of the young people, would like to thank all the adult volunteers and the swimming pool lifeguards who gave up their Saturday night and who made it such a fun event.
