Ahead of this year’s TT and MGP the Ramsey Town Commission has reviewed and revised its refuse collection operations.
Following a re-assessment of its health and safety provision the Commission has identified additional measures to be implemented during refuse collections to mitigate any risk posed by increased traffic movements during the two festivals.
A number of areas have been identified as potentially hazardous for refuse collection vehicles to safely enter and exit.
As a result some collection routes will be temporarily suspended while others will be modified.
Mitigation measures include the provision of an escort or ‘back-up’ vehicle where the collection of refuse or manoeuvring of the refuse collection vehicle is considered to put the collection crew and other road users at risk; areas identified are the junction of The Crescent and Ballure Road, and the junction of Mayhill and Claughbane Lane. Additionally, on some routes, collections are to be suspended or limited and in these instances extra refuse bins will be provided.
In implementing these measures the Commission has been mindful of the Coroner of Inquests judgment in the case of the death of a motorcyclist when his bike collided with a parked refuse collection vehicle.
All households and businesses on routes affected by the changes have been notified.
