Tynwald supports new target for renewable energy

by isleofman.com 21st May 2013

A motion which recognises that the Manx government's target, of generating 15% of the Island's energy demands from renewable sources by 2015 as impossible to achieve has been unanimously supported by Tynwald.

Environment Minister Phil Gawne had moved that the court received the Council of Ministers' Report on the Renewable Energy Target and approved its conclusion and recommendations.

The report suggested that a target of 80% reduction of 1990 greenhouse gas levels by 2050 should now be adopted . . a target some 37 years in the future.

However, the Environment Minister Phil Gawne says a global opportunity to underline the Island's green credentials now exists:

The court also unanimously supported the Council of Ministers' Report on Environment and Infrastructure Policy and its recommendations, which was debated at the same time.
