A Celebration in sail for the Euterpe [Star of India] – 150th anniversary of her launch.

by isleofman.com 22nd May 2013

The Manx Model Boat Club is holding a ‘sail-in’ for Vintage model yachts and a ‘Have-a-Go’ radio control yacht afternoon at the Mooragh Park on Sunday 26th May from 2.00pm.

Ramsey Town Commissioners are supporting the event by ensuring the lake is full to the brim and letting they use the covered bandstand area by the Lakeside cafe for display purposes and assembling the yachts in the event of inclement weather. They shall also be featuring a model of the Euterpe [Star of India] along with other model yacht memorabilia.

They hope to be able to arrange some racing and hope you can join in. Also there will be a display of other model boats from Club members, so whilst the yachting is being staged there will be other model boats to look at close up.

The events are free to watch and visitors are very welcome to come along.  If you wish you may bring along your own yachting items to join the display.

The afternoon will commence at the Lakeside Cafe covered area, Mooragh Park, Ramsey at 2:00pm and will continue until around 17:30pm. Even if the weather is inclement, they will still be under cover with the displays.

More information can be obtained by contacting the club secretary mmbc@manx.net or from Brian King coordinating officer via newsMMBC@wm.im or from the Club media contact Kim Holland at newsMMBC@wm.im {815624}.

The next event will be the Milntown Pageant, postponed from last year, on Sunday afternoon the 9th June on the Milntown Lake.
