MHK says Tynwald should be recalled if bus strike can't be resolved

by isleofman.com 22nd May 2013

An MHK says he will ask for Tynwald to be recalled as early as possible if the bus dispute can’t be resolved within the next 48 hours.

Leisure chiefs have this afternoon (Wed) said the threatened bus strike during this year's TT will go ahead, after its latest offer to drivers was rejected.

In a statement the DCCL says local representatives had recommended to drivers to accept the proposal, but at the last minute there was what's described as 'interference from beyond the Island'.

However, Peter Karran says that is not the case as the ballot box has yet to be opened.

And he insists drivers’ unhappiness surrounds safety, not pay.

Leisure minister Graham Cregeen says he's very disappointed but is assuring the public, bus and rail services will run throughout the TT period.

It's unclear how many stand-in drivers have come forward, but a TT bus timetable is being iussued tomorrow afternoon.
