The SRA Cup is a team handicap competition for B and C League teams. Matches are decided on a points basis, each tie being best of five, with the best three game scores for each player going to make the team total. The pre-determined handicap is then applied to the team total to give the final result.
Bespoke Recruitment (225) v Outcasts (190)
Bespoke Recruitment took on the Outcasts at Mount Murray. Although Bespoke were missing their number one player, the team managed to rally and run out an impressive win. Bespoke took the honours with all five matches being won by three games to nil, a feat they achieved only once over Outcasts this season. It was this lack of game wins that proved to be Outcasts undoing. Ian Shirley had a very close game with Mark Henson. Shirley managed to win 3-0 but Henson was not far away, picking up 41 points. Jon Morley proved to be too strong for Stuart Highly at two, the latter picking up 20 points in the process. Mark Strattford and Mark Harrop were also on good form both running out 3-0 winners. Mark Strattford’s trade mark drop shots were as impressive as ever though Aleyn Taggart still managed to pick up 33 points. It was Harrop’s pace and range of shots that proved too much for James Van Dort who was restricted to 16 points. Dean Sowerby had a competitive match with Helen Cave at five but managed to close the show with another 3-0 win, Cave picking up 21 points. Bespoke Recruitment would like to thank the Outcasts for a fun and enjoyable evening.
Racketeers (195) v Jewel Tech Squash Academy (225)
In the other fixture, the only cross league tie of the round, Jewel Tech Academy proved too strong for a combined Racketeers squad. The Academy side were heavily handicapped but had been well briefed about the need to not only win but to win convincingly. This they did in style with all the Academy players taking inevitable three – nil wins; it was just a case of how many points the Racketeers could accrue to add to the 134 allocated to them as the Academy’s handicap. Olli Heinikoski, Paul Cantillon and Jo Witchell did very creditably against A League opposition in Mason McLarney, Patrick Fitzpatrick and Carl Albrigt respectively. The three Racketeers picking up 29 points between them. Sid Batty for the Academy restricted Nick Corlett to 16 points as did Macklin Wilson against Andy Dalrymple. Thus the Racketeers fell short of their target leaving Jewel Tech Squash Academy with a well deserved second round meeting with Bespoke Recruitment.
