Following yesterdays By Election for the House of Keys which saw Chris Thomas elected as MHK for Douglas West, leaving his seat vacant in the St George’s Ward of Douglas Borough Council, George Campbell has come forward to declare his candidacy for the forthcoming by-election in the ward.
George, 34, lives in St George’s Ward at Westminster Drive in the town. He is involved in a number of local charities and organisations and is Chairman of the Isle of Man Special Olympics. He previously stood in the local authority elections in 2012, narrowly missing out on a seat on the council.
Commenting on his election ambitions George said “Whilst I was disappointed not to be elected in 2012, I have continued to show an interest in the work of the council and still attend the public gallery to observe the monthly council meetings. That has kept me up to date on a variety of matters which would allow me to hit the ground running should I be successful this time around. I am a big supporter of “Authority for Local Authorities” and believe Douglas Borough Council should be given more powers and responsibility from central government to allow them to focus on the bigger island wide issues.”
