Crime on the Island fell by more than 15% over the past 12 months.

More than 2,600 crimes were recorded between March 2012 and April 2013, this is down 412 on the year before.

The Constabulary's end of year statistics suggest crime has fallen sharply again despite it already being at a 30-year low.

The force's detection rate stood at 47.1% which is higher than comparable figures for police forces in England and Wales.

Theft is down by 21.4%, while public order offences are down 17.5% - burglary, assaults and criminal damage all fell too.

Crime is down with all four Neighbourhood Policing Teams, with the west seeing the greatest decrease by 19%,

Home Affairs Minister Juan Watterson says the figures show the Constabulary is continuing to rise to the challenge of delivering a quality service against a backdrop of budgetary restraint.

He says the Island can be proud of its police force and the efforts of the Chief Constable and his team.
