Double delight for Ayre

by isleofman.com 25th May 2013

Ayre United clinched a cup double to spark Tangerine celebration on Friday evening.

Two goals from veteran marksman, James Teare, helped them defeat Colby 4-2 at the Bowl to add the Paul Henry Gold Cup to the already secured GH Corlett Woods Cup.

It capped another memorable season for the Andreas club who will hope to mount a serious challenge for promotion next term.

For Colby, who missed out on promotion on goal difference, it was a bitterly disappointing end to a season which promised so much - although they will look forward to the 2013/14 campaign with optimism.

They took the lead through Sam Renshaw before two goals either side of half-time put Ayre ahead.

No sooner had they gone in front, Teare stuck his first to put them further in the ascendancy.

And although Adam Fretwell’s deflected shot gave Colby hope, Teare had the final word to seal a cup double and the club’s third Gold Cup crown.
