Fire Service deal with chip pan fire

by isleofman.com 29th May 2013
At approximately 17:20 yesterday, 28th May, fire crews from Douglas were called to a report of a chip pan fire at an address on Stanley View, Douglas. The information gained by the Emergency Services Joint Control Room was that everyone was out of the flat where the fire was but it was not possible to confirm that everyone was out of the other flats in the building. On arrival crews wearing Breathing Apparatus and using thermal imaging equipment were able to quickly locate and extinguish the fire. Whilst the flat involved in the fire was being checked and cleared another Breathing Apparatus Team checked the remainder of the property and confirmed that no-one was left in the building.

Fire crews then cleared the smoke with a ventilation fan carried on the fire appliance and once a thorough check had been carried out, confirming that the fire was completely extinguished, responsibility for the property was handed back to the owner. The Flat was extensively damaged by smoke and the kitchen area has significant heat damage, the occupant was advised by fire crews to find alternative accommodation.
