Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation (CHF) donates defibrillator to Scott Physio for use at TT grandstand

by isleofman.com 30th May 2013

CHF have donated another defibrillator, this time to Scott Physiotherapy for use at the Grandstand over TT week and for any other events they attend. However this machine was not bought by CHF.  This defibrillator was donated to CHF by American Charity Hoops For Heart Health, an American Charity who are trying to raise the awareness of Sudden Cardiac arrest in the young and are distributing defibrillators across America.  In a recent visit to the Isle of Man, charity member Wayne Simone donated the defibrillator to CHF Chairman Paul Healey.

Paul said ‘it was over the internet that Wayne found out about our charity and as he was coming over to the Island to visit family he decided to bring a defibrillator with him to give to us for donating elsewhere.  We have decided to give this one out to Scott Physiotherapy as so many people visit the Grandstand this time of year and Isla and the team have a tent set up there.  Even after TT Isla can use the machine for other events she attends around the Island.  We want to say a big thank you to everyone at hoops for health in America and hope they can continue to raise awareness in their part of the world as we continue to do it here on the Isle of Man.

Ben Scott from Scott Physio said ‘We at Scott Physiotherapy feel honoured and privileged to have been given a defibrillator unit for use at the TT races and other events.  As part of the medical set up it is important that we have the relevant tools to be as good as we can be.  We, as a small business, could not afford to buy a defibrillator unit so to have one donated by Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation is an incredible gift that could very easily help save a life.  Having available defibrillator units at events like the TT can make a real difference and we both appreciate and applaud the work that Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation is doing in this area.  Thank you very much’

At the presentation of the defibrillator Isla Scott was joined by TT riders Simon Andrews and Dan Cooper (picture) with Charity Chairman Paul Healey, his son Thomas and Craig’s Mum and Charity Secretary Paula Lunt.

The charity are a few months into their campaign to raise ?60k to donate defibrillators to all 35 Primary Schools on the Island having already donated 55 machines to all Football Clubs, Rugby Clubs, other sports facilities and all High Schools.  Fundraising is going well and they have already raised over ?10k with some of their main fundraising events still to come.

Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation is holding its annual dinner on Friday 14th June 2013 at the Palace Hotel.  The special guests for the evening are Sky Sports pundit Matt Le Tissier and impressionist Les Gibson. There are still some tickets available at a cost of ?50 each. Call Paul on 460918.

The Charity have also announced their next heart screening dates as 24th & 25th August 2013 at the Sefton Hotel.  If you are aged between 14 and 35 you can book your place at www.craigsheartstrongfoundation.co.uk.
