If you fancy a a nice quiet afternoon after all the TT madness, the Manx Model Boat Club are holding a model boat pageant (postponed from last year) to celebrate the Queen’s diamond anniversary of her coronation (2nd June 1953) on Sunday 9th June at Milntown.
Milntown are hosting the Pageant and it hoped that as many as 60 boats, one for each year of her reign, including a "Viking longboat." will be on display.
Boats will be congregating on the water from 2.00pm with the grand pageant sailing to orders by 3.00pm.
Model Boat Club members will be bringing all their stock, new and old, with the hope to possibly set atleast an Isle of Man record, if not a British Isles record, for the number of boats afloat on the lake at the same time. To enable this, several raft convoys will be made so that old boats with no radio gear can be towed about. No attempt will be made to formalise the procession, boats will congregate as they float around.
The Club ask that you do not bring your own boats without prior consent from the organisers, as frequency clashes can occur, especially with cheaper electrical goods, causing much damage. Please contact the OOD listed below for more information. All boaters are required to have insurance cover, as a Club member, this is granted with membership.
The event will take place on the Milntown lake, and normal garden admission fees will apply, so make a day of it and look around the gardens as well. For “sat nav” users and visitors the post code for Milntown is IM7 2AB.
OOD (officer of the day) and “Pageant Master” is Kim Holland and can be contacted at newsMMBC@wm.im or via the email link on the Boat Club website www.manxmodelboatclub.org to the webmaster.
