A new ferry company for the Island

by isleofman.com 5th June 2013

A new ferry company says it wants to compete directly with the Steam Packet Company by TT 2014.

Ellan Vannin Line, based in Peel Road in Douglas, says it plans to transport passengers, bikes and freight between Douglas and Liverpool during next year’s festival.

And the company’s also promising three cargo services a week between the Isle of Man and Merseyside throughout the rest of the year.

But the firm behind the plan says it will hold a meeting next month to discuss how the route will operate.

On its website, the Ellan Vannin Line says it wants to be a Manx-owned, Manx-run company which will be cheaper than the Steam Packet.

The firm says it’s looking for a local lawyer, an accountant and a corporate service provider, as well as political support.
It says it’s planning a meeting with interested parties by the end of July, with the venue to be announced at the end of this month.

Its first freight services, according to the website, will begin in September.
