Festival of Nature

by isleofman.com 5th June 2013

Peel, ISLE OF MAN – Local nature conservation charity, the Manx Wildlife Trust is holding a Festival of Nature as part of the British Ecological Society’s Festival of Ecology, a public focussed, nationwide celebration of ecological science with over sixty participating institutions across the UK and the Isle of Man.

The Festival of Nature will be taking place from 12 to 4pm on Saturday, 15 June 2013 at the Wildflowers of Mann Project’s wildflower nursery at Mullen e Cloie, St Johns – just opposite the football club.  There will be lots of wildlife-related activities for both adults and children to get involved with, including guided walks around the wildflower meadows, making mini bug hotels and nest boxes to take home, marine and freshwater touch tanks and there will also be a special guest appearance from Harry the hedgehog between 2 and 3pm.

Professor Georgina Mace FRS, President of the British Ecological Society said, “The British Ecological Society is delighted to be working with the Manx Wildlife Trust in celebrating our Centenary year.  This event is part of our Festival of Ecology through which we hope visitors will learn more about the science of ecology and how relevant and fascinating this science is to understanding the challenges we face in the world today.”

Entry to the event is free although there will be a small charge for refreshments and some activities.  For more information, please visit www.manxwt.org.uk.
