Vehicle Arson on Port St Mary Golf Course during TT last year
Time and date of issue: Tuesday 4th June 2013
NPT or Department: SNPT
Sergeant Paul Kemp says, “The Police are asking for help to identify those responsible last year for two stolen cars being set alight on Port St Mary golf course at 1:15am on Wednesday 6th June 2012 and I am hoping that perhaps this media release will jog some memories. Were you in Port St Mary last TT when the two cars were set alight on the golf course? Perhaps you were on holiday on the island last year at the time of this but didn’t think anything of something that you saw back then or perhaps you are a resident and have come into some information that could help us? Did you see anybody acting suspiciously around that time? Have you heard anything since that may help us identify the culprits for this? I would urge anybody with information either contact us or telephone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is a charity completely independent from the Police.”
The below is the original press release from Weds 6th June 2012 – last TT. As the anniversary of this incident is approaching, we are re-releasing the original one in the hope that perhaps a witness may come forward.
At about 1:15am this morning (Weds 6th June 2012) the Emergency Services responded to two motor cars that were on fire on Port St Mary golf course. One of the vehicles, a green Peugeot 306 was found burnt out below Perwick Bay estate and had rolled off the edge of the cliffs and the second, possibly a red Citroen Saxo was located still alight about 200 metres down the course from Perwick Bay. The Peugeot 306 has been reported as stolen. Enquiries are still in progress to trace the owner of the possible Saxo.
Sergeant Kemp says, “The Fire Brigade and the Police responded to two vehicles which were reported to be alight in different areas of the Golf Course and the Fire Fighters brought them under control fairly quickly. An extensive search was carried out by the Police, Fire Brigade and Coastguard for injured parties with nobody found. We believe that these two fires are linked. These fires are suspicious and the person or persons who caused them could well have suffered burns or other injuries as a result. Clothing would likely smell heavily of smoke which would be an indicator of a person being close to or involved in the fire.
We would ask that any person who noticed any poor driving or suspicious activity at 1:15am or in the run up to that time in the area of Port St Mary or surrounding areas; or indeed can give us any leads to identify those responsible please make contact with us as soon as possible.”
