Heritage Open Days 2013 - Do you own a part of Manx History?

by isleofman.com 5th June 2013

Do you own a historic building or collection that you would love to show off to the Manx public? If so, Manx National Heritage would love to hear from you.

Heritage Open Days are held in the first two weekends in October and in the past four years have brought together museums, historic societies and properties Island-wide to offer six days of open doors, tours, guided walks and activities that are free to explore.

Heritage Open Days are about celebrating our unique heritage and opening people’s eyes to unusual spaces and places on the Isle of Man that are either not usually accessible to the public, need some extra explanation or normally charge admission.

If you own a historic site or collection and would like to share it with others, Manx National Heritage would love to hear from you. You might live in a historic house, have a Keeil in your garden or own a building that has a fascinating past. You would have to be on hand to enlighten people about its history but Manx National Heritage can provide support, whether that is a volunteer to help out on the day or guidance on how to research your property.

Last year the highlights of the programme included Castletown Police Station, designed by Baillie Scott, tours of Jane Crookall House the former Maternity Home and the former drill hall of the Isle of Man volunteers. This year with your help we want to build on the success and popularity of the last four years and we can’t wait to help you explore!

Please contact us July 1st 2013 if you would like to take part.
