Manx Cancer Help Launches Handbag Appeal

by isleofman.com 14th June 2013

Did you know those lovely handbags you no longer use could be raising money for charity instead of gathering dust at the back of your wardrobe?

Manx Cancer Help has launched an imaginative fundraising appeal as part of its 30th anniversary activities asking anyone with a good quality handbag they no longer need to drop it off at any Sure store. The charity then plans to sell donated handbags from its stand, plot 45, at the Tynwald Fair on July 5 to raise vitally-needed funds for its work in the Island.

Sure was quick to lend its support, agreeing that its stores in Douglas, Ramsey and Port Erin could become official drop-off points for unwanted and unused handbags. All donations will be collected on July 1st.

Ally Martin, Fundraising Co-Ordinator at Manx Cancer Help said: “We are calling on everyone who has a good quality handbag they don’t use or don’t want any more to drop it in at any of the Sure stores around the Island by July 1st.”

“We will be selling as many of the donated bags as we can from out stall on plot 45 at the Tynwald Fair, with all proceeds going towards ensuring we can continue to provide our essential service for the Island’s residents.”

“On behalf of Manx Cancer Help, I would like to thank Sure for agreeing to make its stores the official drop-off points for donated handbags, ensuring they are easily accessible to people Island-wide.”

Sarah Jarvis, Marketing Manager at Sure, added: “We’re thrilled to be able to help Manx Cancer Help with their fundraising activities. They provide a truly valuable and much needed service for the Island’s residents, something that we at Sure wholeheartedly support.”

Established in 1983, Manx Cancer Help provides essential emotional support and expert counselling for cancer patients, their families, carers and friends. It offers a series of free, confidential sessions, face-to-face and over the phone, to anyone affected by a cancer diagnosis.
