The Island’s leading legal firm, Appleby (Isle of Man) LLC has renewed its three year sponsorship of the Ellan Vannin Cycling Club (EVCC) it was announced today. The agreement, which includes a new stock of Appleby branded cycling kit for the club, will also support two cycling events on the Island; the Appleby Sportive, a mass participation, non-competitive cycle ride on Manx Roads and for the first time the Appleby Under-16 Cycling Championships, a new, competitive cycling event on the Island for young riders.
EVCC Chairman, Richard Fletcher, commented: “On behalf of the club I would like to thank Appleby for their continued support. The Appleby Sportive has grown in popularity since its launch three years ago and we have high hopes that the Under-16 Championships will be just as successful.” He continued, “Cycling has received a huge profile boost following the success of our Manx sportsmen and women and it is thanks to support of businesses such as Appleby that we can continue to support cyclists of all ages and abilities.”
Managing Partner of Appleby (Isle of Man) LLC, Sean Dowling, said, “As part of our commitment to developing sport on the Isle of Man we are pleased to renew our support of the EVCC. We have a number of riders in our staff and realise the benefits this sport offers young men and women on the Island.” He contined, “It is exciting that this year we can also extend this support to the Island’s younger riders by giving them the opportunity to compete in the Under-16 Cycling Championships. This will be a brand new event on the Island and we look forward to seeing a great turnout!”
The inaugural Appleby Under-16 Cycling Championships will take place on Saturday 20 July at Jurby Kart Track and will consist of ten races in one day (five age groups / girls and boys). This will be followed by the Appleby Sportive on Sunday 4 August. There will be a choice of two distances; 100km and 72Km, with both starting and finishing at the Ramsey Rugby Club and all proceeds raised will be invested to support the Under-16 Cycling Championships.
