Employees of Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, joined by family and friends, are taking on a ‘mountain’ of a challenge to raise money for charity.
To date, 15 people have signed up for the Three Peaks Challenge, which takes place on July 5th, over the Tynwald weekend. Participants in the challenge will have to climb up and down the highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales in just 24 hours, with an option to also take on the Isle of Man’s highest peak, Snaefell.
Tackling Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowden means the team will face a total ascent of 9,800 feet, walking a distance of 42kms.
The team has joined the challenge to help raise funds for Barclays’ charity of the year, the Isle of Man Children’s Centre. Everyone taking part must raise at least ?250, a minimum of ?3,750 for the team, and Barclays has agreed to match the fundraising efforts pound-for-pound.
Chair of the Barclays Isle of Man Charity Committee Stuart Nelson said:
“This team led by Barclays’ employees is facing a real uphill challenge as they take on the highest peaks, tackling almost 10,000 feet of climbing in a single day. They have set themselves an ambitious fundraising target which with the support from Barclays, they hope will exceed ?10,000 for our Charity of the Year.”
“The work of the Isle of Man Children’s Centre is very important and valuable and I’m encouraged to see our employees once again giving up their free time to take on a demanding physical challenge to raise money and support this work.”
“I am very proud of them all, delighted Barclays is supporting their effort and wish them all the best.”
The Children’s Centre works with children, young people and families in 15 locations across the Island. Through the Children’s Centre, children and young people are offered care, play, learning and residential care.
For families, the Children’s Centre offers parents support throughout pregnancy into teenage years and offers advice on a range of issues including divorce, contact and child behaviour.
