Kevin Oliphant-Smith has declared his intention of standing for the forthcoming by-election for Douglas council in St Georges ward.
Kevin, 27, a resident of Douglas has had a keen interest in Manx politics from a young age.
On announcing his intention to stand Kevin said:
“Having been born and brought up in Douglas and now having a young family, I believe that the council should represent all of its residents, both old and young, and strive to improve Douglas for all; including visitors be they from other parts of the Island or further afield. I believe that some “young blood” is needed to take the council into the 21st Century. I'm very passionate about getting involved and have a proven track record of helping in our local community. I will be committed to serving not only the residents of the St Georges ward, but all Douglas rate payers for the good of Douglas. Looking to the future we need a council that is fit for purpose in this modern world, but without forgetting its roots.
I would also like to see Central government working more closely with local authorities for example the improvement of vocational courses and training offered on island to the benefit of both business, the Council and the Island. Finally I feel I would make a good councillor as I have learnt in my professional life to make myself available to those I am working with, to share ideas, understand other people’s points of view and gain consensus. I have always enjoyed talking to people, and get a great satisfaction from helping others."
Kevin has worked as a healthcare practitioner for ten years and has a passion for supporting communities and those in need.
