A whiz on the bikes but can Conor cook pancakes?

by isleofman.com 18th June 2013
Conor Cummins, having safely negotiated this year’s TT and gained third place in the lightweight race, will face a challenge of a very different kind at the Isle of Man Food & Drink Festival which this year takes place on 21st and 22nd September at the Villa Marina Gardens, Douglas.

At 3pm on Sunday the 22nd September he will meet Dot Tilbury in the Manx Gas Cookery Theatre in and attempt to cook a Perfect Pancake using local produce. Last year, Dot vanquished Steve Colley in a friendly competition to produce the Best Manx omelette so who knows what will happen this year.

The event is part of a packed programme of cookery demonstration at this year’s Festival sponsored by Manx Gas. These will feature TV personalities the Fabulous Baker Brothers at 11am and 2pm daily as well as chefs from well known restaurants such as L’Experience and The Boatyard.  All demonstrators will make full use of ingredients produced on the Isle of Man, showing what can be achieved with our quality local produce.

Commenting on the challenge, Conor said: “facing other riders and the speeds needed to achieve success on the TT course is one thing. Facing an audience and cooking in front of them is quite another, especially as I can’t be sure what tricks Dot will get up to. Still, I’m always up for a challenge so I’m looking forward to it and will start training and planning for my winning omelette very soon”.
