Minimum wage still not high enough says new MHK

West Douglas MHK Chris Thomas says he hopes the minimum wage will continue to rise as promised by Economic Development Minister John Shimmin.

Yesterday Mr Shimmin won Tynwald’s backing for a 3.2 per cent rise in the minimum wage, to ?6.40 an hour.

He said he'd continue to increase the minimum wage to reward those who are in work, as well as to encourage the unemployed to find a job.

Mr Thomas says although he welcomes the increase, it’s still not enough given the high cost of living on the Island:
