There's been a boost to confidence the Isle of Man may experience a mini shale gas boom.
Economic development minister John Shimmin told Tynwald government believes there are reserves of gas under Manx territorial waters.
It follows recent reports suggesting shale gas prospects in the UK are much bigger than previously thought.
The Manx government says it will exploit resources here if it's economically viable and safe to do so.
The fracking process used to extract gas is controversial - critics argue it can cause earth tremors and want investment in renewable energy instead.
The Managing Director of Manx Gas Tony Nicholls says the company is following developments closely and will play a part in public debate about shale gas:
