Governor hosts reception for snowstorm helpers

by isleofman.com 20th June 2013

The Lieutenant Governor will tonight (Thursday 20) say a personal 'thank you' to scores of individuals who went the extra mile to help others during the severe weather in March.

Adam Wood is hosting a reception at Government House to pay tribute to those who showed outstanding community spirit during the Island's worst snow storms in 50 years.

Invitations have gone out to 200 representatives of the emergency services and public utilities as well as many members of the Manx public.

The lieutenant governor hosts a reception each year in honour of the Queen's official birthday in June, for local residents whose efforts deserve recognition.

This time he's paying tribute to those who went to the aid of stranded neighbours or helped rescue livestock during the big March snow.

Guests will include members of the emergency services, the MEA, Water Authority, Departments of Environment and Infrastructure, the farming community and the general public.

Commenting ahead of the reception, Adam Wood said the weather in March was exceptional but so was the response of the Manx public - many of whom worked long hours to protect lives and restore normality.

Tonight's event is intended as a celebration of their outstanding dedication to the community.
