The Department of Infrastructure records its thanks to the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company for its help with the TT 2013 Road Safety Campaign.
 
After every TT Road Safety campaign a review is undertaken and one thing that was clear from last year’s TT festival was that the majority of road traffic incidents occurred during practice week.
 
With this in mind, the Road Safety Team approached the Steam Packet Company to set up a display on their busiest sailings.
 
The display proved to be very popular with visiting bikers, and members of the Road Safety Team were able to engage with the bikers during their inbound journey to the island.
 
The message promoted was Respect Our Roads and don’t go for a lap the moment you get off the boat; take a day or to two to acclimatise to the Island’s roads.
 
All members of the Road Safety Team who staffed sailings commented on the warm welcome given to them by the crews of the vessels.
 
David Cretney, MHK, Minister for Infrastructure, said: “The Department of Infrastructure wishes  to thank the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company for allowing members of its Road Safety Team to  promote this campaign on eleven of the busiest sailings in the run up to TT. This was a key element in the delivery of this year’s successful  TT festival  campaign.   One of the campaign messages was: We all have a part to play - and clearly the Steam Packet played its part.  Thank you to all involved”.
