Cancer services at Noble’s Hospital in the Isle of Man have been recognised with two significant awards.
The Macmillan Cancer Information Centre and the Chemotherapy Suite at Noble’s Hospital have each been awarded the Macmillan Quality Environment Mark (MQEM) and to celebrate, a special presentation is planned.
Isle of Man Department of Health officials including the Minister for Health and Member for Health Services, staff and volunteers have been invited to Noble’s Hospital on Friday 21 June to be part of the award ceremony and find out more about the awards.
Run in partnership between Noble’s Hospital and Macmillan Cancer Support, the Macmillan Cancer Information Centre provides free information, support, therapies and treatment for anyone affected by cancer.
Jez Such, Macmillan Development Manager for South Cumbria, Lancashire & the Isle of Man, said: “These awards reflects the hard work and dedication of the teams and volunteers that work tirelessly to improve cancer services at Noble’s Hospital and provide a high standard of care for all patients.
“To receive the award, environments have to score highly in areas such as use of space, comfort and atmosphere, personal and social interaction and health and well being - all areas highlighted as really important by people living with cancer who helped develop the award. Assessors also looked at the mechanisms and processes the organisation had implemented to improve cancer services as a whole.”
The MQEM is a detailed quality framework used for assessing whether cancer care environments meet the standards required by people living with cancer. Macmillan Cancer Support developed the Quality Mark, the first of its kind in the UK, in collaboration with people living with cancer and stakeholders including the UK Department of Health.
Elizabeth McGowan, Cancer Services Improvement Facilitator at Noble’s Hospital said: “Working in cancer services is very rewarding, we all feel we are in such a privileged position to be able to improve care and standards to make the cancer journey easier for patients, families and friends. The unique collaboration between Noble’s Hospital and Macmillan Cancer Support has enabled us to achieve our objectives. In meeting the MQEM standards, we have demonstrated that Noble’s Hospital is welcoming and accessible to all, respectful of patients’ privacy and dignity, supportive to users’ comfort and well-being and enables those who use the service more choice and control.”
Barbara Scott, Noble’s Hospital Manager said: “The achievement of two Macmillan Quality Environment Mark awards shows that we are dedicated to maintaining high standards, dignity and comfort for all our patients. It is paramount that standards within all care environments are excellent, and that the delivery of services is exactly what the patient and their relatives expect and require.
