Celton Manx: Prepared to care

by isleofman.com 21st June 2013

The largest conference ever seen in the Isle of Man to highlight the work of carers is being sponsored by Celton Manx.

Hosted by Crossroads Care as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations ‘Prepare to Care’ at the Villa Marina on September 18th will illustrate the selfless support provided daily by the more than 10,000 carers in the Isle of Man whose ages range from four to 92. Expert speakers will explain the impact caring can have on carers, their lives and their families. The conference will also provide an opportunity to explore how to prepare for becoming a carer.

Crossroads Care chief executive Jackie Betteridge said: ‘Three in five people will become a carer, fact! The other two will be cared for. A carer can be adults caring for other adults, parents caring for ill or disabled children or anyone caught up in a care situation within the family. Is this you? Could it be you? One of the best ways Crossroads can help is to prepare people for what being a carer could involve.’

‘This conference, supported by Celton Manx, with a series of expert speakers, will explain the impact becoming a carer has on you, your family and your life. It involves choices, and the more informed you are, the better the choices you make.’

Celton Manx executive director Bill Mummery said: ‘Social responsibility is a cornerstone of what we, as a company, do. It is an approach founded on a commitment to foster strong reciprocal partnerships in the community. At Celton Manx much of our support is channelled into lending visibility to local causes that have the power to help turn lives around. We are therefore pleased to be sponsoring Crossroads Care’s conference with its clear-sighted “be prepared” call to action.’
