by isleofman.com 21st June 2013

The Children’s Centre is hosting an open day on Saturday June 29 packed with fun activities for all the family. It will also give parents and youngsters the chance to find out about its nurseries, after school clubs, and holiday clubs. The open day is at the centre’s HQ in Woodbourne Road, Douglas, from 11am to 3pm. All funds raised will go towards The Children’s Centre’s charitable projects - including Out2Play, Community Farm, EPIC, Contact Centre, and Action, Songs and Rhymes - which benefit families and children across the Island.

One of the main attractions at the open day will be birds of prey from The Curraghs Wildlife Park. For a small fee children will have a chance to have their photo taken with them from noon to 3pm. Other open day events include large scale junk modelling, carnival games, pin the tail on the donkey, hoopla, hook the duck, guess how many sweets are in the jar, face painting, pig racing, bouncy castle, BBQ, cakes and refreshments. Dance group Move It will be providing entertainment. Tables are being sold for ?10 for anyone who wants to go along and have their own stall. There are a limited number of tables available to use for the day, or stall holders can bring their own. Stalls already booked for include decorated cakes, Usbourne books, Avon, a bric a brac, and children's clothing. Rachel Staley, Head of Early Years and Playwork at The Children’s Centre, said:

“The open day will be fun for all the family, but it’s also a chance to promote what we do at our three nurseries in Douglas, and at our After-School and Holiday Club. It’s an ideal opportunity for parents with children looking to start in September to come along and have a look at our facilities, meet the staff, take a brochure and to book their children in and arrange trial inductions while places are still available.”

The Children’s Centre runs several nurseries in Douglas which have all won awards for their quality and service. Park Road Baby Nursery is for children up to 18 months old; Woodbourne Road Baby Nursery for (18 months to two years); Woodbourne Road Nursery (toddlers two years to three years and pre-school three to five years. There’s also an After-School and Holiday Club based at Woodbourne Road for four to 12 year olds. In Ramsey The Children’s Centre runs Bonwick Day Nursery at Bonwick House in Lezayre Road, and an After School and Holiday Club at the same location for four to 12 year olds. There’s also the Jurby Pre-School Nursery for two to four year olds. Go to www.thechildrenscentre.org.im for more details.
