Health complaints at five year high

by isleofman.com 21st June 2013

Complaints made against the Department of Health are at a five year high.

Between April 2012 and March 2013, there were 228 issues officially raised by members of the public.

Rushen MHK Laurence Skelly asked the Health Minister David Anderson to release the complaint figures in a Tynwald written question.

In the past year, there were 43 more official complaints than there were between April 2008 and March 2009.

The main area of concern is that of clinical treatment - which faced the most criticism from the public, with the attitude of staff and issues with appointments also in the top three.

Only a handful of cases weren't resolved and last year 11 were referred to the Independent Review Body, of which four were upheld.

Mr Skelly had asked for the statistics for Noble's Hospital - but Mr Anderson said there would be difficulties in extracting that information in the timeframe given.
