Get a taste for adventure sports with charity days

by isleofman.com 24th June 2013

The Children’s Centre is organising two fundraising events which are ideal for anyone who has ever wanted to try a range of adventure sports and activities. On July 20 the Island’s leading charity for families and children is hosting a Climbing Adventure Day offering a full day of climbing and abseiling with expert tuition from The Children’s Centre’s MOBEX team. The climbing day will be based around the south of the Island, using venues such as the Chasms and Aldrick. MOBEX's qualified team will help you master climbing a variety of routes at various venues around the Island. All equipment, as well as lunch, will be provided. It costs ?70 per person, and there is a group fee of ?450 for up to eight people.

On August 3 there is a Water Sports Adventure Day which, depending on the weather, will be a day of sea based and a river based activities and could include kayaking, coasteering, gorge walking, surfing or paddle boarding. Both the climbing day and the water sports events are weather dependent, and should the weather be unsuitable the day will be rescheduled. Sarah Hickey, MOBEX Senior Instructor, said:

“Both of the adventure days are ideal for anyone who wants to try out one of the activities, but will also suit corporate groups wanting a ‘team building’ day. It would also make an ideal gift for someone who has often talked about wanting to try climbing, abseiling, or kayaking but who has never got around to realising their ambition.”

All money raised from both events will go directly towards supporting the work that MOBEX undertakes in the community with young people. To make sure that everyone has the right kit for the adventures that lie ahead both of the events will begin at The Children’s Centre’s Community Farm where the MOBEX team is based. The farm is based at Wallberry Farm on the Carnane Estate just off the Old Castletown Road in Douglas. For more information email Sarah Hickey at sarahhickey@thechildrensentre.org.im or phone the MOBEX office on 631922.
