For the third successive year Celton Manx has sponsored the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK charity golf day.
The event was held at Mount Murray golf club on Thursday, June 20th, to raise money for the fund set up 20 years ago in memory of legendary footballer Bobby Moore OBE, who died from bowel cancer aged just 51.
Among the entrants were football legends Perry Groves, the former Arsenal player, Steve Perryman, best remembered for his Tottenham Hotspur successes, Graham Roberts, retired footballer and manager, and Erik Thorstvedt, the Norwegian ex-professional goalkeeper.
Celton Manx executive director Bill Mummery said: ‘We were pleased to support the tournament once again as the Bobby Moore Fund is a cause extremely close to our hearts. Bobby played for West Ham United, a football club we, as operator of the global online sports book SBOBET, were proud to sponsor for four years. This was a partnership that came to an amicable conclusion in May of this year but during our association with the club we became closely involved with the fund to which we were not only proud to contribute but also lend heightened exposure.
‘The work being achieved by the Bobby Moore Fund in helping save lives from bowel cancer could not be a more fitting tribute to one of the world’s greatest sporting heroes. And sport is central to all that we, as a business and as a committed supporter of local causes, do. ‘Bowel cancer is a largely preventable disease and since the Bobby Moore Fund was set up in 1993 we’re seeing a significant fall in mortality rates.
