Celton Manx on track to support Island's athletics championships

by isleofman.com 25th June 2013

The Isle of Man track and field championships at the National Sports Centre on June 29 and 30 are to be sponsored by Celton Manx.

Organised by the Isle of Man Athletics Association (IOMAA) the championships are acknowledged as one of the highlights in the Island’s athletics calendar and will see the two most successful male and female competitors in each of the under-nines to under-17s age groups presented with their victor and victrix ludorum trophies.

New for the 2013 programme is the Dursley Stott 100m sprint challenge open to boys and girls in the under-15 and under-17 age categories, with cash prizes being sponsored by Dursley Stott.

Celton Manx executive director Bill Mummery said: ‘2013 is the second in our three-year sponsorship agreement with the Isle of Man Athletics Association. Encouraging sporting endeavour through strong reciprocal partnerships is at the heart of our corporate social responsibility strategy. Clearly the Association shares our commitment to develop nascent athletic talent across all ages and we also applaud its efforts to promote the Isle of Man at every opportunity as a centre of sporting excellence. We’re therefore delighted to be sponsoring the championships once again and I am confident they will serve as a showcase for some of the Island’s finest athletics talent.’

IOMAA treasurer and acting secretary Cheryl Pryke said: ‘The Association is most appreciative of the financial support Celton Manx is providing to the Island's track and field championships. Athletics in the Island is enjoying a growing following. That growth seems to be particularly in the under-11s age group, which promises great things for the future of athletics on the Island.

’With the three-year sponsorship deal from Celton Manx, we have every confidence we can build on this current success and make sure we not only retain but also increase those numbers.’
