Winner of TV’s Any Dream Will Do, star of West End smash Joseph, Wicked and Legally Blonde. . . Lee Mead is bringing his live show to town.
Lee performs hits from his West End triumphs and songs from his chart-topping albums: his double-gold, eponymously-titled debut album has been followed up by two, equally successful, albums.
“Lee is backed by a superb, talented live band and joined by an extra-special guest,” says Michael Taylor, MD of EasyTheatres.com, the company promoting the show.
Born the son of a cab driver, in just six years Lee has defined the overused expression “a musical journey”.
While performing in The Phantom of the Opera, he auditioned for the BBC series Any Dream Will Do to play Joseph. He was selected as one of the top 20 finalists, eventually winning the televised final nine weeks later.
Booking for Joseph was so fast that in July 2007 — when the first three months were sold out — the producers extended the show's run and Lee's contract until June 2008.
On 12 June, 2007, he released Any Dream Will Do and Close Every Door by download. Five days later, the songs entered the UK Singles Download Chart at number 18. Six days after that, the songs peaked at number two. The proceeds from the songs went to the BBC's annual Children in Need charity appeal.
In 2008 he performed All I Ask Of You with Hayley Westenra in Hyde Park to celebrate Andrew Lloyd Webbers 60th birthday celebrations.
In 2009 Lee was again asked to support BBC’s Children In Need and joined a host of established singers at Abbey Road Studios to record the All You Need Is Love album. He also released his own, critically-acclaimed album Nothing Else Matters.
Following his successful run as Joseph in the West End, Lee took on a new challenge. From January 2010 he played the starring role in a touring revival of Lord Arthur Savile's Crime, adapted by Trevor Baxter as a Victorian comic melodrama from the short story by Oscar Wilde.
He returned to the West End in May 2010 to take on the role of Fiyero in the musical Wicked while also pursuing a solo singing career.
The following year he returned to the West End to star in hit musical Legally Blonde. And then Lee was also an inaugural member of the wildly successful ‘West End Men’ concert series.
On days off from appearing live in musicals and concert shows, Lee is busy recording hit albums – after following up his debut album Lee Mead with the critically-acclaimed Nothing Else Matters and Love Songs releases, he is now working on a brand-new album which will be released next year.
His local appearance is a rare opportunity to see Lee perform outside of the West End as a solo artist. Lee is taking his own show, An Evening with Lee Mead, on the road.
“It’s an opportunity to enjoy an evening of superb songs performed by the man of the moment,” says Michael Taylor.
“Tickets are selling fast, so, if you are a Lee Mead fan, book now while the best seats are still available.”
