Island's justice system will be improved says Minister

by isleofman.com 26th June 2013

Home Affairs Minister Juan Watterson says he’s confident a new criminal justice bill will address vital issues on the Island.

Yesterday in the House of Keys his Criminal Justice, Police Powers and Other Amendments Bill was given its first reading with broad support form MHKs.

North Douglas MHK John Houghton raised concerns about how long people can be kept on police bail, saying in one case it had stretched on for 14 months.

But Mr Watterson said he thinks the new laws will improve the Island’s justice system.
