Fire Crews attend fire in Kirk Michael

by isleofman.com 27th June 2013

Yesterday afternoon, 26th June, fire crews were dispatched from both Kirk Michael and Peel Stations to a report of a gas main on fire, on the Balleira Road in Kirk Michael.

Upon arrival, Kirk Michael`s Fire Appliance with Sub Officer Allen Brew in charge, along with his crew, were faced with flames approximately 15 feet in height, coming from the ignited gas main situated on the embankment alongside the road.

Fire crews covered the surrounding foliage with water jets to prevent further fire spread, whilst they awaited the arrival of the gas company.

Gas officials isolated the gas from both ends of the main and fire crews extinguished the fire.

Fire crews remained on scene until 18:40hrs dealing with this incident.
