by isleofman.com 1st July 2013

Dust off your hiking boots, grab your walker’s stick and get ready for Manx National Heritage’s Guided Walk to the Chasms on Tynwald bank holiday weekend. Led by Manx Registered Tour Guide and qualified Walking Group Leader, Dr. Andrew Foxon, it is the perfect opportunity to get out into the open air, enjoy beautiful scenery and discover more about the southern coast of the Isle of Man.

Dr. Foxon, who is currently self employed as a tour guide, walking group leader and teacher of navigation and map skills at Go-Mann Adventures, has previously worked as Head of Professional Services at Manx National Heritage where he was responsible for running the museum collections, archive, library, education and conservation. He has also worked within the heritage sector in the East Riding of Yorkshire, the Orkney Islands and Scotland. He graduated with a PhD in Archaeology (Early Technology) from Glasgow University in 1991.

Andrew said;

“The highlights of this walk are the stunning views, incredible bird life and fascinating geology. Visitors can expect to see places and things that they have never seen or noticed before. Personally, I am looking forward to sharing these fantastic places and their secrets with other walkers”.

‘Cregneash to the Chasms and back – a Guided Walk’ will explore a wide range of local interests including geology, archaeology, landscapes, history and wildlife habitats along the route. There are a number of walks throughout the day on Saturday 6th July plus an evening walk on Sunday 7th July. Tickets cost ?6 and as places are limited Manx National Heritage recommends booking early at Cregneash, the Manx Museum Shop or over the telephone on 648000.

Participants are advised to wear stout footwear with a good grip with clothing suitable to the day. The walk will last 1.5 to 2 hours. Ticketholders will meet at Harry Kelly’s cottage.
