Warning about bogus electrical survey in Saddlestone

by isleofman.com 4th July 2013

Douglas Borough Council has been made aware that an individual claiming to be working on behalf of the Council is claiming to be conducting a survey of electrical installations on the Saddlestone Estate, Douglas. The Council understands the individual is advising householders their safety could be at risk, as that their Consumer Unit which controls their electrical installation,  is not in compliance with the Institute of Engineering Technology’s 17th edition wiring regulations and is therefore unsafe and will require changing.

Douglas Borough Council wishes to make it clear that it has not commissioned such a survey and that the claim to act on behalf of the Council is fraudulent.

The Council is taking every step to ensure its good name and reputation are not being compromised and advises householders to always to ask for proof of identity from any such ‘cold callers’ and to report such bogus calls to the Police.”

The Central Neighbourhood Policing Team says: If you are in any doubt as to the identity of a caller or whether they are genuine please err on the side of caution and confirm with the body that they purport to represent. Always ask for identification and if in any doubt do not allow strangers into your home.”
