Gas leak in school grounds

by isleofman.com 4th July 2013
The Buchan school in Castletown has been evacuated after a gas leak - on their last day of term.
Manx Gas engineers at the scene say the leak has been stemmed and they're now working on a permanent fix.
It's understood a metal pin used to secure a marquee in the school grounds pierced a medium pressure gas main when marquees were erected in the Buchan school grounds several earlier this week.
There was no leak at that stage as the pin itself sealed the puncture.
Gas only escaped from the main as the marquees were taken down this morning and the pins pulled out of the ground.
The school was evacuated and the alarm raised.
Director of Manx Gas Customer Network Services Robert Gardner has confirmed the gas flow has been stemmed and engineers are now carrying out a full repair.
