The Isle of Man’s bid for cycling supremacy at next month’s Island Games in Bermuda is being supported by the Steam Packet Company.

A van carrying the Isle of Man Cycling Association’s 25 bicycles will be shipped to Liverpool on-board Manannan on July 8th – prior to the bikes being flown to Bermuda – and returning to the Island on July 23rd.

The Island Games are held in different locations every two years and have been staged in the Isle of Man twice – the inaugural event in 1985 and again in 2001.

Gary Hinds, Director of Performance & National Team Manager from the IOMCA, said: ‘We’re extremely grateful to the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company for this much-needed support in transporting the van carrying the bikes to the UK. The Island Games is a fantastic event and the squad can’t wait for it to get underway and start challenging for medals.’

Steam Packet Company Chief Executive Mark Woodward said: ‘We carry many groups of cyclists to the UK and Ireland each year when they compete off the island and were more than happy to help out on this occasion. Hopefully the squad can maintain their excellent record and bring some medals back to the Island.’
