Cal Cooper made a glorious but ultimately unsuccessful bid to land his first BSB 600 Superstock podium at a sun drenched Snetterton on Sunday.
The 17 year old IoM Sport Institute supported rider from Ramsey grabbed second place with a four laps to go and started to hunt down the championship leader but came up short with just one and a half miles to run on the CF Motorsport R6 Yamaha.
Said Cal: ‘I was closing rapidly on the leader and I gave it a big go, but the Yamaha spat me off. It was my fault. I just want to thank everyone who is supporting me, especially CF Motorsport for a great bike.’
Cooper, who also enjoys backing from Dean Teversham Roofing of Dorset and Paul Dedman Performance in Ramsey, hole-shot the race from the second row on the grid but slipped to third on lap two.
He was always in contention, however, and produced his best riding to date, roared on from the pit wall by big supporter Sam Lowes, who is currently leading the World Supersport championship.
On the pace throughout the weekend in free practice, qualifying and in the warm-up, Cooper next heads for Brands Hatch in a fortnight’s time, wanting to capitalize on his good form and aiming to make his maiden podium.
