Isle of Man Archery Report - 7th July

by isleofman.com 9th July 2013

T- shirts and shorts were broken out for the first time this season as the IoM Archery Club took to the field on Sunday in sweltering conditions. The archers were glad of a change of uniform and so were the horse flies who viewed the exposed limbs as a kind of mobile buffet. The round of the day was a York/Hereford shot as part of the clubs Handicap League. The Juniors shot a variety of shorter National rounds to qualify for the July National Postal Shoot which is open to archers all over the British Isles.

Of the five compound archers who began the shoot, only two managed to finish. Colin Moore and Simon Musgrove both suffered equipment failure early on. Moore’s sight broke after only eighteen arrows had been shot; he was followed six arrows later by Simon Musgrove who found a split in his bottom limb. Both men will have to find replacements quickly as the Club Championships are fast approaching. Sarah Rigby, who has been ill since winning a clutch of Gold Medals in Guernsey, eased herself back into training by only shooting the morning round. This left Dave Moore and Pete Mumford to shoot it out. Mumford led all the way to the last end when he had a miss which allowed Dave Moore to snatch the victory by three points. Both men shot personal best scores with Moore adding 114 points to his previous best.

More personal bests were to follow from the recurve archers. Both Barbara Harris and Karen Lott added 21 points to their respective pb’s with Harris finally finding a little form to take the win on her unadjusted score. Rhys Moore had good day adding 35 points to his pb. Danny Cowin grumbled light heartedly through the majority of his shoot but still added 38 points to his personal best.

Of the junior archers, Adam Wright put in a solid performance while Josh Trafford and Jack Tyrer were shooting their respective distances for the first time. Young Joseph Reaney shooting an outdoor competition for the first time, made a splendid start to his season and we hope he makes a habit of it. Thomas Bott continued his comeback but as neither he nor Joseph have established an outdoor handicap they could not be included in the adjusted results.

York/Hereford/National Handicap Results:- 1. Rhys Moore 1567(139 907 37)pb, 2. Karen Lott 1466(140 834 24)pb, 3. Josh Trafford 1460(62 284 4)pb, 4. Dave Moore 1442(144 1110 67)pb, 5.
