Health Minister David Anderson has told Tynwald he will stand down from his position if he is found to have deliberately misled the court.
Mr Anderson made a personal statement at the beginning of today's sitting of the court.
It related to the Care Quality Commission, a UK National Health Service organisation. The Department of Health on the Island used a forerunner of the CQC - the Healthcare Commission - to undertake a review of Nobles Hospital in 2006. The Commission later merged with two other oganisations to form the CQC.
Mr Anderson says he always understood that the mandate of CFC prevented it from assisting the department further and the organisation does not regulate health and social care services on the Island.
However, a paragraph within schedule 4 of the 2008 Health and Social Care Act states that this isn't actually the case - something Mr Anderson said he'd been misinformed on.
The Health Minister also told the court he was aware that South Douglas MHK Beecroft had received a letter from the current Chief Executive of the CQC, David Beehan, in which he claimed he had met Mr Anderson last year and had a conversation with regard to the potential of the CQC getting involved with issues on the Island.
