Visit of Scotland’s First Minister

by isleofman.com 12th July 2013
First Minister of Scotland Alex Salmond MSP is to visit the Isle of Man next week to deliver the Chief Minister’s International Lecture.

Mr Salmond is due to give the lecture to an audience of nearly 200 invited guests in the Villa Marina, Douglas, on Tuesday evening (July 16). His visit will also include a separate meeting with Chief Minister Allan Bell MHK as well as seeing something of the Island’s economic and cultural life.

Mr Bell commented: ‘Alex Salmond is a political force to be reckoned with and I was pleased when he accepted my invitation to present the next International Lecture. This is all part of our ongoing programme of building relationships and understanding between the Isle of Man and key players in the external environment.

‘Scotland is the Island’s nearest neighbour geographically and the two countries have strong historical and cultural connections. We have been watching developments in Scotland with considerable interest and I am looking forward to learning more about Mr Salmond’s aspirations for the future.’
