Cavendish wins brutal stage

by isleofman.com 12th July 2013

Mark Cavendish has tasted victory for the second time at this year's Tour de France and taken his career tally to 25.
He won stage 13 with experts calling it brutal because of the conditions.
On a day of heat and strong winds, Cavendish was alert and got into a breakaway group of twelve led by the Saxo Tinkoff team working for Alberto Contador.
While they drove the attack to eat into Chris Froome's lead in the General Classification, the Manx Missile and rival Peter Sagan dug in for the sprint finish.
In the end Cavendish won the dash for the line easily on a stage which certainly didn't end in the expected bunch sprint.
Afterwards, Cav was delighted with his team and his own tactical awareness:-
