Ramsey RNLI’s annual Lifeboat Day is to be held on 20th July, this Saturday. In the time honoured tradition it will be centred in the area around the RNLI lifeboat station on South Promenade, Ramsey and will run from 11.00 am to late afternoon. An eager lifeboat crew, assisted by their families, friends and supporters look forward to welcoming visitors to a fun day for all the family, raising much needed funds to help our lifeboats continue saving lives at sea.
Ali Clague is the lifeboat mechanic at Ramsey and has helped to organise many Ramsey lifeboat days over the years. He says, “Lifeboat day is always a day packed with fun and action for the whole family. Everyone is very welcome. Once again there will be lots to do and to see including static displays by the emergency services, stalls for young and old, the Fun Bus, a bouncy castle, excitement with the Venture Centre, have-a-go radio controlled model boats and a whole heap more. Northern Scrap Metals have kindly donated a scrap vehicle and the Fire Brigade will give a demonstration of the cutting gear they use to rescue people trapped in cars. There will be refreshments including ice cream, candy floss, tea, coffee and soft drinks and Quine’s hog roast, homemade sausages and burgers. AND Stormy Stan, the RNLI celebrity and superstar, will be on hand to entertain his fans throughout the day. Lifeboat day really is a fantastic opportunity to find out more about your Lifeboat, catch up with the crew and have some fun.”
In addition, simultaneously and in support of Ramsey Lifeboat Day, Kayak Fishing Isle of Man in association with Ramsey Outdoors and Rods ‘n’ Reels are running a kayak fishing completion in Ramsey Bay.
Also In action, as always on Lifeboat Day, will be the indefatigable Ramsey Ladies Lifeboat Guild, which has been raising funds for the RNLI charity for over one hundred years. They are holding their annual street collection and flag day plus a tombola in Shoprite, raising much needed funds to help keep the lifeboats afloat as well as public awareness of the vital life-saving service the RNLI charity provides, all funded from public generosity.
