by isleofman.com 17th July 2013

Ahead of musical celebrations to mark the Villa Marina’s centenary over the weekend of July 12 and 13, the Mayor of Douglas Councillor Carol Malarkey welcomed to the town hall Derek Broadbent, who had composed a piece of music, a military march, commissioned by the Council that was to be premiered at a concert given by Foden’s band on Saturday July 13.

The piece, ‘Centenary March: Villa Marina 2013’, was conducted by Mr Broadbent who was also the composer of a work to mark the Council’s own centenary in 1996, ‘Music for a Centenary’ a recording of which was played in the background during his visit to the town hall.
