Manx Sport and Recreation (MSR) is getting ready to provide a super summer of sport for children across the Island. They’re organising the Summer Games in association with Manx Telecom and Bridson & Horrox with the event being held in the first week of the school holidays July 22-26. Children from reception year up to year seven attend for a full week of activities and take part in a wide variety of sports.
The Department of Community Culture and Leisure’s Sports Development Unit organised the first Summer Games Week last year with an Olympic theme. This proved extremely popular with more than 500 children attending and it’s hoped that this year’s event will be even bigger and better. Aaron Quinn, Sports Development Officer at Manx Sport and Recreation’s Sports Development Unit, said:
“Activities take place throughout the whole of the NSC indoor and outdoor facilities including The Bowl astro pitch. The activities include football, badminton, handball, athletics, table tennis, boxing, bowls, and archery. It’s a great way for children to have fun and to try new sports and we’re very grateful to Manx Telecom and Bridson & Horrox for supporting the Summer Games.”
All children who sign up for the full week will have the opportunity to attend a fantastic closing ceremony and receive their Summer Games t-shirts and medals. They will also receive a certificate and bonus stickers for their Sports Development Sticker Cards which can be used for discounts on future bookings once completed. Family discounts are available when booking more than one child onto the Summer Games Week. Single day bookings are also available – however discounts are not available for any single day bookings or combinations of single day bookings.
Places are limited, so organisers are advising parents to make bookings as soon as possible if they want to make sure that their children can take part. Children in reception year through to year one who are booked onto the Summer Games programme must attend registration at the NSC main sports hall. Registration for all other participants is at the NSC outdoor changing block adjacent to the NSC astro pitch. Participants are advised to attend the sessions in clothing appropriate for the sports they want to take part in.
