Rounders tournament is a big hit for charity

by isleofman.com 18th July 2013

A rounders tournament raised just over ?1,100 for The Children’s Centre’s charitable projects. Thirteen teams battled it out at the Vagabonds RUFC ground on July 11 in the fun event organised by The Children’s Centre and sponsored by Paragon Recruitment. Two teams from PWC made it to the final with the company’s ‘Hard Hitters’ team taking the title. But the emphasis at the event was on friendly competition and raising money for a good cause. Players paid ?10 to take part and were treated to a fabulous all-you-can-eat barbecue provided by The Pavilion Cafe and Restaurant. Susie Cox, Fundraising Co-ordinator at The Children’s Centre, said:

“More than 140 people took part representing businesses from across the Island. I’d like to thank everyone for making it a really enjoyable event, Paragon for sponsoring it, The Pavilion for their catering, and Vagabonds RUFC for the fantastic location. We are already looking ahead to organising another rounders tournament in 2014 and building on the success of this year’s event to make it a friendly, affordable, annual sporting and community occasion.”

Thanks to sponsorship from Paragon Recruitment covering organisational costs, all of the proceeds from the tournament will go directly to The Children’s Centre’s charitable projects which help families and children across the Island. Jo Wood, Paragon Director, commented:

“It was a great night, the weather was perfect and The Children’s Centre did an amazing job of co-ordinating, refereeing and running the event. The feedback has been fantastic.  On behalf of Paragon we would like to thank all involved - the teams for taking part and contributing to the total raised for The Children’s Centre, and finally huge congratulations to PWC for an outstanding rounders performance!”
