CATS cast to make "Memories"

by isleofman.com 18th July 2013

There are just a few days to go until the musical extravaganza CATS takes to the stage at the Gaiety Theatre, Douglas, for its hugely anticipated run, supported by SMP Partners.

Cast and crew have been in intensive rehearsals for months to ensure the show, which runs from August 5 to 17, meets the high standards set by other Taylorian productions.

The award-winning Andrew Lloyd-Webber musical is a sparkling fusion of music, dance and verse, and has been delighting audiences around the world for more than 30 years. Suitable for all the family, it is packed with popular show tunes, perhaps most famously ‘Memory’.

Co-founder of Taylorian Productions, Matt James said: “There’s no better way to introduce new audiences to the wonders of live theatre than with the magic, the mystery, the memory of CATS.”

“CATS is a real family show and the chance to stage this in the Island really is a one-off experience, for both performers and audience.”

“Without the likes of SMP though it simply wouldn’t happen and we are extremely grateful for their ongoing support. Hopefully their staff will enjoy the occasion.”

This summer’s production of CATS is the latest in a long line of performances supported by SMP Partners. Previously, the Wizard of Oz, Miss Saigon, Evita and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers have been backed by SMP.

Mark Denton, Managing Director of SMP Partners, said: “The musical productions we have supported over the years have been outstanding and brought enjoyment not only to thousands of theatre-goers, but to all the cast and crew involved.”

“I was delighted we were able to support Taylorian with CATS, and after meeting the cast and seeing some of the rehearsal work, it is looking and sounding fantastic and it is clear everyone is committed to make this an amazing show.”

SMP Partners supports musical theatre not only because of the entertainment it brings audiences, but also because it teaches those involved valuable life skills and the importance of teamwork.

Mr Denton added: “The musical theatre we sponsor, in common with the sporting programmes we support, offers a wide range of people with a diverse set of talents an opportunity to develop skills which will prove useful in every area of their lives for years to come.”

“Apart from the pure entertainment musical theatre brings, it can be a wonderful confidence-builder, especially for children.”

“Whether it is dancing, singing, acting or musicianship or on the technical side, such as set building and lighting, people of all ages have the opportunity to stand out as individuals, but they also need to work together and understand the value of teamwork.”

“This production will give everyone involved those opportunities, as well as entertaining everyone who goes to watch.”

Tickets are at villagaiety.com or from the box office on 600555.
